Work on the next road improvement project started today on the City’s west side. This project is part of the Community Crossings Matching Grant program.

The project includes all of East and West Linden and Helm Street from Wilkinson to Park Avenue.

The first phase includes new ADA ramps installed at several corners along both roads. This concrete work began today and will not impact the driving lanes or traffic flow.

The second phase will include milling of the existing pavement. This will have a minimal impact to travel. Milling on Helm Street will only take one day. Milling on Linden Avenue will only take 1-2 days. The street department will then assist with additional manual work to prepare the road for new asphalt.

The third and final phase will be installing new pavement. This has not been scheduled yet, but it will have a short interruption to travel while the streets are paved. Paving on Helm Street should only take 1-2 days and paving on Linden Avenue will take less than 1 week, weather permitting. Another release will be provided when the paving has been scheduled.

Please know that the paving on East and West Linden will not take place until W. Market Street has re-opened to two-way traffic. We appreciate the continued collaboration between the contractors and our Street Commissioner, Tony Shanks. Any questions regarding this project can be directed to Tony at 574-753-4610.
