Logansport Mayor’s statement on opposing WSP zinc plant

Last Updated on April 10, 2020 by Office of Logansport Mayor Chris Martin

The following is a statement from Mayor Chris Martin on his opposition to the WSP Zinc Plant:

“Patience is power. Patience is not an absence of action; rather it is “timing” it waits on the right time to act, for the right principles and in the right way.”~ Fulton J. Sheen

After a lot of research, phone calls to government officials, and conversations with those for AND against WSP, I have decided that it’s in the best interest of Logansport to oppose the building of this plant in our community.

I sincerely appreciate those who were respectful and willing to give me the time I needed to gather the information necessary for me to form my own opinion and stance on this issue.

I have e-mailed the county commissioners and have asked them to table any meetings until this COVID-19 situation decreases in intensity enough to remove the restrictions on public gatherings. This project should not be allowed to move forward until the citizens of Cass County can be heard.

The Logansport High School Young Republicans, along with the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council is working on a public forum for the citizens to ask questions about the project, and about the company.

Citizens of Logansport, know that you have an alliance with the Martin Administration in square opposition to WSP. I will stand shoulder to shoulder with you as we continue making our way through these incredibly difficult times TOGETHER.
