Solar System Ambassador Pam Roller and her Astro-Pup Patches would like for you to view the Image of the Day. It is a photo of the first Mars Rover Sojourner landing on Mars on July 4, 1997.

It was a day the world stood still as the first Mars rover hitched a ride on the Pathfinder Lander. This event literally lit up the Internet with people viewing the awesome images of the Sojourner. The panoramic view shows the Sojourner at the Ares Vallis landing site. It was to be a 7-day mission that lasted for 83 days. Sojourner was named after American civil rights pioneer Sojourner Truth.

Mars Pathfinder returned more than 16,500 images from the lander and 550 images from the rover, as well as chemical analyses of rocks and soil and extensive data on winds and other weather factors.

The Mars Rover Perseverance is targeted to launch on July 30th.
