On Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020 at approximately 8:19 p.m., Cass County Central Dispatch received a call of a two-vehicle crash at State Road 25 and Old State Road 25.
Cass County Sheriff Deputy Joe Gentile responded to the crash along with several other public safety agencies, including the Clinton Township Fire Department, the Indiana State Police, Logansport Fire Department, Logansport Police Department and Phoenix Ambulance Service.
Initial scene assessment found a southbound vehicle on Old State Road 25 attempted to cross the four lanes of State Road 25 and was struck by a northbound vehicle on State Road 25.
Michael Shaw, 73, of rural Logansport, was driving a 1953 Kaiser Frazer two-door passenger car southbound on Old State Road 25 when he pulled into the northbound lanes of State Road 25 and field to yield the right of way to a northbound vehicle. Shaw’s vehicle was struck by a northbound 2005 four-door Pontiac driven by Bonnie Julian, 26, of Peru.
Shaw was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Cass County Coroner’s Office. A passenger in the vehicle, Shawnette Shaw, was transported to Saint Elizabeth East hospital in Lafayette with serious injuries.
Julian and her two juvenile passengers were transported to IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020 at approximately 4:25 a.m., Cass County Central Dispatch received a call of a single vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 600 West and South River Road. Cass County Sheriff Deputy Nick Bowyer responded to the crash along with Clinton Township Fire Department, Logansport Fire Department and Phoenix Ambulance Service.
Initial scene assessment found a single vehicle traveled off the north side of the roadway and struck a tree.
Preliminary investigation found that Matthew Hughes, 23, of Logansport, was driving a 2013 Honda eastbound on South River Road when he drove off the roadway and struck a tree at the intersection of CR 600 West. Fire personnel extricated Hughes and a passenger, Andrew Dunkin, 24, of Logansport. Both men were flown by medical helicopters to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne with critical injuries.
According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Dunkin succumbed to his injuries on Oct. 14, 2020.
