LOGANSPORT –Noah Schafer, the Cass County Prosecuting Attorney, announced that Terrence Trabain Miller, 37, of Logansport was sentenced to forty-nine years in the Indiana Department of Correction for Dealing in Methamphetamine, Dealing in a Narcotic Drug (Heroin), and Resisting Law Enforcement, as well as being determined to be a Habitual Offender. Miller was found guilty at the conclusion of a jury trial on September 30, 2020 in Cass County Circuit Court with Judge Stephen Roger Kitts, II presiding. This was the first jury commenced in Cass County since the outbreak of COVID-19. Miller admitted to being a Habitual Offender under Indiana law. Chief Deputy Prosecutor Tom Lupke handled the case.

The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Cass County Drug Task Force, with participation by the Logansport Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Department, and the Indiana State Police in June of 2019. During an ongoing narcotics investigation, Miller was observed in the 1100 block of High Street in Logansport. Shortly thereafter, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by Miller in the 600 block of High Street. During the stop, officers located a black Taurus 9 mm pistol, over 80 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 5 grams of heroin packaged for distribution, and almost a thousand dollars in U.S. currency. According to testimony at trial, Miller was reaching for the bag containing the pistol when he was removed from the vehicle by law enforcement.

According to Court records, Miller was previously convicted of a 2007 Armed Robbery of a liquor store in Logansport while armed with a shotgun. He also had prior convictions for Auto Theft in 2007, Obstruction of Justice in 2018, and several misdemeanors.

Prosecutor Noah Schafer commented after the sentencing: “We are very pleased with the sentence, which was appropriate given the severity of the offense and Mr. Miller’s criminal history. This sends a strong message that career criminals who threaten the safety of our community by trafficking in illegal drugs will be dealt with appropriately. We are also very grateful for the excellent work of the Drug Task Force, which continues to do so much to protect our Cass County.”
