The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently issued new guidance and recommendations for appropriate COVID-19 screening at healthcare facilities across the country. To comply with this best practice information as part of our continued commitment to the highest levels of patient safety, Logansport Memorial Hospital is making changes to our screening process at each of the restricted entrances to meet this new criteria.

Entrances to Logansport Memorial Hospital for patients, families, and approved visitors are still restricted to three locations:

  • LMH Main Entrance from 6 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday only
  • Medical Office Building East (MOBE) Entrance from 7:30 a.m.- 5 p.m., Monday – Friday only
  • ER Entrance open 24/7, every day of the week

All patients and approved visitors are still required to check in with screening staff upon arrival, and are required to wear a mask.

The CDC has newly recommended that temperatures be taken of all patients and visitors accessing a healthcare facility location. Logansport Memorial is installing three new infrared scanners at these restricted entrances to efficiently take the temperature of every patient and visitor, as well as to verify that each individual is wearing a mask. Patients with a temperature will still be permitted to enter, but any visitor with a temperature of 100.0º or greater will be asked to leave. This new guideline follows the CDC’s latest recommendations.

Visiting hours have been limited to the hours of 8 am – 8 pm daily. As a reminder, Logansport Memorial’s visitor restrictions policy has not changed in recent months and continues to be enforced. Only one healthy support person is approved in most patient care areas for patients who are not COVID-positive. This one visitor policy means that the same person is the approved visitor for the patient’s entire stay. Ideally, this support person is required to assist the patient physically, or is involved in ongoing caregiving of the patient.

In some patient care areas like Physical Therapy and Medical Imaging, where waiting rooms are small and it becomes difficult to practice social distancing, we ask that patients consider coming alone for their appointments whenever possible.

With COVID-19 cases on the rise across Indiana, Logansport Memorial Hospital wants to continue taking every possible safety precaution to deliver the highest levels of quality care for the patients and families we serve across the north central Indiana region. We ask for your continued support of these safety measures here at the hospital, and to continue practicing them in your interactions and activities in your daily life.
