Here are a few things we thought you might want to know for Monday, Nov. 30, 2020:
Cindy Howard was sworn in as Cass County treasurer on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020. She made the announcement Sunday on her Facebook page. Howard was elected in November but says she is assuming the duties of the office earlier than expected after a precinct caucus was held to fill the vacancy left when Kathy Adair retired last month.
Howard says that Beth Liming, whose second term as Cass County Clerk ends this month, has been elected by the caucus to fulfill the remainder of Howard’s term as Cass County Recorder, which runs through 2022.
Destry Richey was elected to her first term as Cass County Clerk in November 2020.
Howard says the 2021 swearing-in ceremony of all newly-elected county officials will take place at the start of the new year with the date/time to be announced.
The Logansport City Council’s Finance Committee is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30 to discuss a grant for Erie Avenue. The meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers on the 3rd floor of the Logansport City Building.
The company redeveloping the former Logansport Mall property announced last week that they expect demolition of the JCPenney building to begin this week.
A Hampton Inn by Hilton will start taking shape on the JCPenney site next Spring. In addition to the hotel, The Junction at Logansport will offer an additional 144,000 square feet of retail space. Park Development LLC says Dunham’s Sports, Dollar Tree, and Planet Fitness have already signed on as tenants. More info here.
On Tuesday, Dec. 1, the Santa Claus, Indiana Post Office will begin offering the 2020 picture postmark to cancel the postage stamps on holiday mail again this year. You can find more information here.
