At approximately 4:10 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2020, patrol officers were dispatched to the area of the 800 block of East Melbourne Ave. reference a juvenile which had been struck by a train. Upon arrival, officers were able to locate a 13-year-old male who was awake. Due to his injuries, the juvenile was flown by Lutheran Air to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. At this time, the juvenile is listed in critical condition.

Officers were able to speak with Norfolk Southern employees who were operating the train at the time as well as witnesses who observed the incident. From a preliminary investigation, it was determined that the juvenile male was walking eastbound on the tracks. As the train, which was also traveling eastbound, approached the juvenile, he exited the tracks and continued walking in the track ballast area on the north side, at which point an unknown object struck the juvenile male.

Officers of the Logansport Police Department Patrol Division were assisted by the Logansport Fire Department, Phoenix Ambulance and Lutheran Air.
