Here are a few things we thought you might want to know today:

Monday, January 18, 2021 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and is a federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. Read the Presidential Proclamation here.

The Cass County Government Building will be closed, and there will be no mail delivery on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021.

Indiana University Kokomo has several events planned throughout the week. You can find more info here.

Some Indiana Department of Natural Resources properties will have self-directed service opportunities, such as litter pickup along trails. More info here.

“United We Serve” A Celebration of the National MLK Day of Service is an hour-long program that will be streamed at 8 p.m. at BidenInaugural.org/watch and PIC’s YouTubeFacebookTwitter, and Twitch.


The Logansport Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 5 p.m. in the Logansport City Building on Monday, January 18, 2021.f The agenda includes election of officers and a public hearing on a petition of Cass City Center LLC requesting a variance from Development Standards for setback and loading area and other various variances. The state government complex will be closed to the public Tuesday and Wednesday in light of recent national events, threats to other state capitols and COVID-19 restrictions.

According to a news release issued Friday by the Governor’s office, there have been no credible threats against the Statehouse.

Per the typical schedule, the Statehouse was closed for the weekend and Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Governor will virtually deliver his 2021 State of the State address on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m.

The Governor’s weekly COVID-19 briefing will be held Thursday, Jan. 21 at 2:30 p.m.

Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray and House Speaker Todd Huston have canceled legislative activity for the week of Jan. 18. Bray and Huston said no committee or session meetings will be held this week, and staff will work remotely until instructed to return to the building.


The Indiana Department of Health reported Sunday that nearly 297,000 Hoosiers have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and nearly 61,000 have been fully vaccinated.

Hoosiers age 70 and older, along with healthcare workers, long-term care residents and first responders, are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. To schedule, visit https://ourshot.in.gov or call 211. Additional locations and appointments are being added as more vaccine becomes available.

The numbers reported yesterday in Cass County included 4717 cases and 60 deaths, with a 7-day positivity rate of 15.8%.
