Update on January 19, 2021 fire on West Market Street

On Tuesday January 19, 2021 at around 9:39 PM Logansport Fire,
Logansport Police, & Phoenix EMS were dispatched to 426 W. Market
St for a residential Fire.

LPD officers arrived on scene and advised fire that one occupant
was still inside the residence and a 72 year old female was located outside of the residence with minor burns. She was transferred to Logansport Memorial Hospital by Phoenix EMS.

Fire department arrived on scene and had a large two story masonry residence with heavy flames and smoke showing out of the front windows and doorway. Crews stretched hand lines and attacked the fire by knocking it down so they could force entry inside the residence. Once inside firefighters located a 76 year old male unresponsive in the upstairs bathroom. The male was removed from the residence by firefighters and care was turned over to Phoenix EMS. The male occupant succumbed to his injuries sustained during the fire while at Logansport Memorial Hospital. The female was treated and released. The names of the occupants are being withheld out of respect for the family at this time, until all of the family can be reached and notified.

The cause of the fire was investigated by the State Fire Marshalls office assisted by the Logansport Fire Department and Logansport Police Department. The cause of the fire was ruled unknown with the possibility of an electrical cause unable to be ruled out.

On January 19, 2021 at approximately 9:35 p.m., Logansport Police, Logansport Fire and medics were dispatched to 426 W. Market St. in Logansport in reference to a residential fire.

Upon officers’ arrival to the scene, the house was fully engulfed with flames. Officers were able to locate a female occupant near the back of the residence. Officers were able to get the female to exit the rear of the residence. She advised that her husband was still inside the residence.

Upon Logansport Fire arriving on scene, firefighters were able to locate the male occupant upstairs and remove him from the residence.

Logansport Police say the 76-year-old male occupant and the 72-year-old female occupant were transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital where the male succumbed to his injuries.

Logansport Police withheld the names of the occupant, pending further notification of family members.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and there is an active investigation. The State Fire Marshall’s Office has been notified and is involved.

Assisting agencies were the Logansport Police Department, Logansport Fire Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Department and Phoenix Ambulance Service.
