On Monday, March 1, 2021 at approximately 8:27 a.m., Cass County Central Dispatch received numerous calls of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of US 35 and US 24, the Anoka exchange, south of Logansport.

Sergeant Pat Zeider responded to the crash along with several other deputies and public safety agencies, including Cass County Fire District 1, Indiana State Police, Logansport Police Department, Logansport Fire Department, Walton Fire Department, Phoenix Ambulance Service and the Cass County Coroner’s Office. Initial scene assessment found a southbound vehicle on US 35 struck a tractor-trailer near the interchange.

Jamie Pay, 24, of rural Logansport, was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox southbound on US 35 when she struck a tractor-trailer that was also in a southbound lane of US 25. The tractor-trailer was a 2020 Volvo tractor with a Wabash National trailer and was driven by Jaspreet Singh, 25, of Sacramento, CA. The Chevrolet Equinox spun after striking the semi-trailer and came to rest south of the interchange.

Witnesses stated the semi driver was backing northbound in a southbound lane on US 35 with hazard lights activated to attempt to make the turn to eastbound US 24.

Pay was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Cass County Coroner’s Office. Singh was uninjured.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police and Logansport Police Department dispatched reconstruction units to assist at the scene. Southbound US 35 at US 24 was closed for approximately three hours. The crash is still under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
