Burglary investigation leads to Cass County

On Thursday, April 15, 2021, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Cass County Central Dispatch was notified that officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Office were enroute to an address in Royal Center to follow up on leads for a burglary investigation. A residential burglary had occurred earlier in the day in the Bass Lake area of Starke County.

While serving a search warrant issued by the Cass County Superior CII Court, officers recovered items taken during the burglary as well as drugs and narcotics paraphernalia.

The Royal Center Police Department, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office and the Harrison Township (Lucerne) Fire Department assisted the Starke County deputies.

“This is a great example of cooperative policing,” Sheriff Schroder stated. “Detective Sergeant Campbell of Cass County was instrumental in assisting and connecting the pieces of the investigation with the Starke County deputies.

Chad R. Weaver, 33, of Lucerne, was incarcerated at the Cass County Jail for possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony.

Billie P. Doughty, 40, of Royal Center, was incarcerated at the Starke County Jail for burglary, a level 4 felony.

The burglary is still under investigation by the Starke County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Further charges may be possible at the conclusion of the investigation.
