On Nov. 12, State Sen. Stacey Donato (R-Logansport) was presented the 2021 Legislator of the Year award by the Indiana School Counselor Association. The award recognizes Donato’s amendment to Senate Bill 54, which would have required the Indiana Department of Education to establish a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion incentive pilot program.

Donato’s amendment would have expanded the bill as written and made sure guidance counselors were involved in the program.

“I am humbled and grateful the Indiana School Counselor Association has presented me with this award,” Donato said. “My hope is to give this issue another go this coming session and continue to support young Hoosiers in furthering their education.”
