Last Updated on January 9, 2022 by Cass County Democratic Party

On a day when observances were taking place throughout the country, local residents gathered to reflect on the events of Jan. 6, 2021, and the first-ever attack on the US Capitol Building.

The event, dubbed “Gathering for Democracy”, was hosted by the Cass County Democrats and included readings by George Washington, Shirley Chisolm, Amanda Gorman, Teresa Leger Fernandez. and Miller Williams, among others.

Former Logansport Mayors Michael Fincher and John Davis offered prayers for healing, patriotism, and community building. Luna Tafolla sang the National Anthem and the evening ended with a sing-a-long to the Woodie Guthrie classic “This Land is Your Land”.

“We had 35 people join together on a bitter cold evening to recall the aspirations of our democracy. We are delighted with the turnout and the earnest response from local residents,” stated Lita Rouser, Cass County Democratic Party Chair.
