At approximately 8:20 this morning we were notified that a suspicious object was found inside an exterior light pole by a worker in the rear parking lot of Logansport Intermediate School at 1600 Chase Road. The building was immediately evacuated and dispatch was contacted. Logansport Police Department, Logansport Fire Department, Cass County Sherriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, and Cass County EMS all responded.

Logansport Police Department arrived on scene, located what was believed to be an improvised explosive device inside of a metal light pole. Indiana State Police EOD was contacted and arrived shortly after to assess the item. Officers with the Logansport Police Department assisted with the immediate evacuation of the workers and teachers that were inside and outside of the school to a safe location. Two trained and certified bomb dogs from Vohne Liche Kennels arrived on scene. Once the K9s arrived an interior sweep was conducted of the school. With no items located. The bomb dog and handler then conducted a sweep of the outside to include the light pole where the suspicious object was located. At this time, it was determined to not be an explosive device of any kind.

A vibration dampener which is used inside poles to reduce swaying had broken loose from the wire casing and fallen inside the pole. At approximately 11:10 a.m. the all clear was given, staff and workers were allowed to return to the building.
