Update from Logansport Police on March 26, 2023 incident

Update from Logansport Police Department as of 1:32 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2023:

On March 27, 2023, at approximately 9:29 a.m., detectives with the Logansport Police Department were contacted by an officer from the Peru Police Department. Detectives were advised that the suspect involved in leaving the scene of the accident on March 26 was possibly at their department. It was later confirmed the male they had was Jhosnaiber Joia Cuenca Orasma, 21, of Logansport, IN. Detectives with the Logansport Police Department went to the Peru Police Department where they detained Mr. Orasma. He was transported to the Logansport Police Department for questioning. Following the interview with Mr. Orasma, he was arrested and transported to the Cass County Jail.

Jhosnaiber Josia Cuenca Orasma was booked into the Cass County Jail on the following charges: Three (3) counts of attempted murder, three (3) counts of aggravated battery, three (3) counts of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, one (1) count of auto theft, one (1) count of leaving the scene of a serious bodily injury accident, one (1) count of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and one (1) count of counterfeit government issued identification card.

All victims, witnesses and the owners of the Renne Wa have cooperated throughout this investigation.

Press release from Logansport Police Department as of 8:36 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2023:

On March 26, 2023 at approximately 1:19 a.m., officers of the Logansport Police Department took a battery report from a male subject alleging he was assaulted while inside the Renne Wa (Former Old Style Inn, 219 S. Sixth St, Logansport). Officers conducted an investigation into this incident and were unable to identify or locate the suspect.

At approximately 3:34 a.m. on the same date, officers were dispatched to the Renne Wa in reference to a subject that had been struck by a vehicle. Officers were advised that the suspect vehicle had left the scene. Upon arrival, officers, located 2 subjects with injuries sustained from being hit by a motor vehicle. Both subjects were treated by first responders and medics and transported to the Logansport Memorial Hospital. One subject was transported to Ft. Wayne via helicopter due to the extent of her injuries. The other was treated at the Logansport Memorial Hospital. It was later determined that a third subject had been struck by the same suspect vehicle. The third subject was also treate at the Logansport Memorial Hospital. Multiple witnesses on scene identified the male suspect driving the vehicle to be the same male at advised he was a victim of a battery that officers investigated earlier.

At approximately 3:42, Logansport Police and Fire were dispatched to the intersection of 25th and Spear St., in reference to a single vehicle accident, and the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. Upon arrival, officers determined taht the vehicle was the same suspect vehicle from the incident at the Renne Wa. No one was located inside the vehicle.

A subject from River Bend Apartments later called 911 advising that their vehicle had been stolen. Officers spoke with the subject and determined that the stolen vehicle was the same vehicle from the previous incidents.

A male by the name Jhosniber Josias Cuence-Orsama, 21, was named as the suspect in these incidents by multiple witnesses. Officers have no been able to locate Jhosniber at this time.

This case is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Logansport Police Department.

Assisting agencies are the Logansport Fire Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Cass County EMA and the Logansport Memorial Hospital.
