Logansport High School announces move to Hoosier Conference

Last Updated on May 12, 2023 by Logansport High School

Logansport High School has announced that it will leave the North Central Conference (NCC) and join the Hoosier Conference after a vote today by the Hoosier Conference. After careful consideration and discussions with coaches and school community members, school officials moved forward in applying.

Logansport High School Principal Matt Jones said, “We are excited to be joining the Hoosier Conference and look forward to the new opportunities, experiences, and rivalries it will provide for our student-athletes.”

Logansport High School has been a charter member of the NCC since 1926. Still, school officials believe that moving to the Hoosier Conference better aligns with their goals of improved travel logistics, competing against neighboring communities , and possible future expansion of competition beyond athletics with academic teams, spell bowl, eSports, band, and choir.

Jones added, “As we prepare for this new chapter in our school’s athletic history, I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful experiences we’ve had as a member of the NCC. We are grateful for the over 95 years we were a part of the NCC and the opportunities it provided our student-athletes to compete at a high level. The NCC has a rich tradition of excellence, and we will always hold our membership in the highest regard and cherish the memories we made in the NCC.”

Athletic Director Brian Strong said, “It was a tough decision to leave the NCC, but we are confident that our move to the Hoosier Conference will benefit our student-athletes and the community. We’re excited to compete against familiar opponents in a conference setting, which will foster a more competitive atmosphere and help our student-athletes grow on and off the field. Of course, we’ll always treasure the memories and opportunities the NCC provided us.”

The Hoosier Conference currently includes ten schools from north central Indiana, including Hamilton Heights, Tipton, Northwestern, Western, Lewis Cass, Twin Lakes, West Lafayette, Lafayette Central Catholic, Benton Central, and Rensselaer Central. Logansport High School will be the newest addition to the conference, replacing Lewis Cass. The move will take effect in the 2024-2025 school year. Logansport High School looks forward to a successful future in the Hoosier Conference.
