Update from Cass County Sheriff’s Department on Nov. 7, 2023 ATM theft in Walton

On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at approximately 4:10 a.m., Cass County Central Dispatch received a call of a possible ATM theft from the Lewis Cass School Administration building at 100 South Main Street in Walton, IN. The ATM is owned by Horizon Bank of Michigan City, IN. Several deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and initiated a criminal investigation. Units from the Walton Police Department and Logansport Police Department are assisting with this investigation.

Preliminary investigation by Deputy Michael Thomison found an unoccupied white pickup truck running next to the ATM on the southside of the Lewis Cass School Administration building. The white Ford F-350 flatbed truck had been stolen from American Tool Time in Logansport, IN, sometime after 5:30 PM on November 6, 2023, but had not yet been reported by the owner. The theft of the truck is being investigated by the Logansport Police Department. An unknown amount of money was stolen from the ATM by the suspects.

Parts of the ATM were found scattered on the streets of Walton as the suspects fled the crime scene. Evidence at the scene indicates the damage to the ATM and theft of money occurred at 2:34 a.m.
