Update: Fire at A Raymond Tinnerman in Logansport, Indiana on Dec. 21, 2023

Last Updated on December 22, 2023 by Logansport Fire Department

At 4:54 p.m. on December 21, 2023 the Logansport Fire Department was dispatched to the A Raymond Tinnerman Manufacturing facility located at 800 West County Road 250 South in reference to a possible fire in the heat-treating facility.

First arriving units observed smoke coming from the roof of the building. Access was made to the roof, and fire was discovered burning in the void space between an old roof and the new roof. A call was made for all available off duty firefighters to report to the scene.

Firefighting efforts were hampered due to the fact a below grade tank of heat treat quench salts was located just below where the fire was located. Quench salts are extremely reactive with water and are explosive. Grissom Fire was contacted for assistance with a large amount of dry powder extinguishing agent. Grissom Fire responded with a crash truck.

Logansport Police Department assisted on the scene with the use of their drone with thermal imaging capabilities. They were assisted by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office with the use of their drone batteries. The drone was in the air throughout the entirety of the incident. This proved to be a very valuable resource.

The fire was brought under control by approximately 9:30 PM. The fire was classified as accidental and was investigated by the Indiana State Fire Marshall’s Office.

Agencies assisting the Logansport Fire Department were Cass County EMS, Cass County Fire District 1, Logansport Police Department, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Grissom Fire Department, Cass County Emergency Management, Red Cross, Cass County Traffic Control Unit, Logansport Utilities, NIPSCO, and the Indiana State Fire Marshall’s Office (Investigation Division).
