On Thursday, August 15, 2024, at approximately 12:15 p.m., Cass County Central Dispatch received a call of a single vehicle crash west of US 35 on US 24 at the Dunkirk Exchange. Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash along with the Logansport Police Department, Cass County Fire District #1, Cass County Emergency Management and Cass County Emergency Medical Services. Initial scene assessment found a single vehicle had been traveling westbound before traveling off the roadway and colliding with a tree and several items in a business parking lot.
Preliminary investigation by Deputy Ryan Preston found Kristopher Weeks, 50, of Logansport, IN, had been driving a 2002 Ford F 150 pickup truck westbound on US 24 just west of US 35 when he drove off the north side of the roadway. The pickup truck struck several items at Budreau Pools before striking a grove of trees. After striking the trees, the pickup truck caught fire. Cass County Emergency Management personnel were first on scene and were able to remove the driver from the burning vehicle before other public safety personnel arrived.
After extrication from the pickup, the driver, Kristopher Weeks, was airlifted from the scene by a Parkview Health Samaritan Flight medical helicopter and flown to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, IN with serious injuries.
The driver was wearing a seatbelt which reduced his injuries from the crash.
The crash is still under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 574-753-7800.
