On Saturday, June 6, 2026, at approximately 12:33 AM, Cass County Central Dispatch received calls about a single-vehicle crash on County Road 600 East, south of US 24. Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash, along with the Walton Fire Department, New Waverly Fire Department, and Cass County Emergency Medical Services. The initial scene assessment found that a
single vehicle was traveling southbound before leaving the roadway and colliding
with a fence.
Preliminary investigation by Sergeant Bryce Hamilton found that Braden Deckard, 18, of Alton, Missouri, was driving a 2021 Dodge Ram southbound on County Road 600 East when he failed to stop at US 24. He continued southbound, traveled off the east side of County Road 600 East, struck a fence and an earthen embankment, and then stopped in a farm field. Braden Deckard sustained serious injuries and was
airlifted from the scene via a medical helicopter to Parkview Trauma Center in Fort
Wayne.
Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in this crash.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the crash. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 574-753-7800.
