Cass County, IN – United Way of Cass County has received a $5,000 grant from Duke Energy Foundation to support its Begindergarten™ program this summer.

Begindergarten™ is a free, 90-hour program designed to prepare incoming kindergarteners socially and academically. Participants receive instruction from local teachers and instructional assistants, helping them increase their proficiency in various critical skills.

Children are screened at kindergarten registration. Those identified as needing additional preparation are invited to attend. United Way of Cass County & Cass County Reading Railroad provide this program in partnership with and support from Logansport Community School Corporation.

“We are grateful for Duke Energy’s investment in this program,” stated Karli Armstrong, Impact and Marketing Manager at United Way of Cass County. “Their generosity will help ensure participants have a stronger start to kindergarten this fall.”

This program will run June 1st through June 26th. There are currently 101 children registered for the program.

“Thank you to the United Way for their continued work to support the families and children of Cass County,” said Jennifer Jordan, Government and Community Relations Manager for Duke Energy. “This program will make a difference in the lifelong learning of these new students and their success in the years to come.”
