Job Description – Electric Distribution System Engineer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  This position requires a flexible well-rounded electrical engineer to contribute to a wide variety of duties including data compilation, systems trouble shooting, providing expertise in methods of electrical system design, construction, and maintenance for transmission lines and substations. Maintains a working knowledge of all applicable codes, regulations, and standards. Performs related duties as assigned.

·       Developing work plans (short- and long-term)

·       Managing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) activities

·       Line construction planning, design and standards (NESC safety standards)

·       Provide expertise with substation planning and design

·       Conduct studies (load growth, voltage drop, over current protection, device coordination, over voltage protection, power factor correction, load balancing, system reliability, sectionalizing, joint use, fault current, line loss, power requirements and power quality, etc.) for planning purposes and optimization of the distribution system while balancing load and improving system reliability

·       Provides project engineering, metering and distribution staff with subject matter expertise in supporting departmental and organizational initiatives, including corrections to voltage, power factor, and load factor problems

·       Establishing accounting record units for staking, inventory, and cost accounting.

·       Analyzing and determining the proper rate class assignment (as needed)

·       Assists in acquiring easements, agreements and permits

·       Developing and monitoring joint use and pole attachment standards

·       Assists in contracting for construction and maintenance contractors

·       Assists in outage handling, dispatch, emergency restoration and outage management systems as needed

·       Assists with regulatory compliance and safety achievement functions

Preferred Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in distribution system planning and or substation design.

Minimum Requirements:

·       Bachelor’s degree in related field; BSEE, BMEE, or similar degree. PE, or certification of EIT with an interest and ability to achieve a PE level. Will consider limited work experience for a motivated EE graduate with great initiative and strong critical thinking skills.

·       Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, demonstrate good organizational skills

·       Ability to work with minimal supervision

·       Must have knowledge or willingness to learn software systems including Supervisory Control and

Data Acquisition (SCADA), AMI (Automated Metering Infrastructure), ERP (Enterprise Resource Program), GIS (Graphical Information System) mapping and Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel)

·       Knowledge in Solar Field production and analysis

·       Excellent verbal and written communications skills

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

·       Ability to identify and implement best practices and continual performance measurement
