Ron A. Smith

smithRon A. Smith, 47 of Logansport passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo.

He was born on February 2, 1969 in Winamac, Indiana to Jim and Bonnie (Mahler) Smith. On August 5, 1995 in Logansport he married Bekki White who survives.

Ron retired as a Union Laborer after 30 years with Deichman Excavating. He was a 1987 graduate of Logansport High School. He was a member of Webb Chapel United Methodist Church and the USBC. Ron was an avid trap shooter and deer hunter; he had many trophy bucks in his den.  Ron enjoyed coaching, he was especially fond of coaching youth league and Babe Ruth baseball for many years. Ron loved watching his son’s sporting events and spending time and traveling with his family and friends. He also enjoyed bowling and competed in several USBC Tournaments. Ron was recently inducted into the Loganland USBC Hall of Fame.

Surviving along with his wife Bekki are three sons, Jimmy (Emma) Smith; Brock Smith; and Tayt Smith, all of Logansport; mother, Bonnie (Ronch) Clem, Logansport; two sisters, Paula (Bob) Bennett, Osceola, IN; and Kellie Wallace, Frankfort, IN.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Ray Smith; and his father Jim Smith.

A celebration of life will be held at  10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 in the Shiloh Christian Church with Rev. Dave Duke and Pastor Tim McKaig officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, June 6, 2016 in the Gundrum Funeral Home. There will also be visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of service in the Shiloh Christian Church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the Webb Chapel Building Fund or Pioneer Babe Ruth.
