LOGANSPORT, IN – The Cass County Emergency Management Agency will be receiving $6,450.00 of support from the Duke Energy Foundation. The funds being provided will support training for area public safety responders in the area of Lithium Ion Battery Response as well as response to other hazardous materials and energy storage related incidents.
Expanding on training conducted last year, Cass County will host Lithium Ion Battery Technician Training on June 21 from 6-10 pm and June 22 from 8a-noon. This technician level training builds on Operations level response training conducted last year and is also supported by the Local Emergency Planning Committee. Responders will see Lithium Ion Batteries undergoing failure and receive hands on training of how to mitigate the situation, and also how to safely package damaged batteries for transport and disposal. The training will include responding to small incidents such as battery packs, electric vehicles, and also larger incidents such as fixed sites such as industrial Energy Storage Solutions that utilize Lithium Ion technology for energy storage.
