Michael “Mike” Nelson

Michael “Mike” Nelson, 75, of Galveston passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at his home.  He was born December 15, 1950, in Kokomo to Jack and Margaret (Crockett) Nelson.   He married Janice A. McKay on April 15, 1983, and she survives.

Mike was a truck driver for Indiana Linen for several years.  He enjoyed hunting arrow heads, fishing, bluegrass music and playing his guitar.  The highlight of his life was being a dad and grandpa and his beloved dogs.

He is survived by his wife Janice of Galveston, his children, Shane Nelson of Deacon, Jenny Ritchey and husband Tony of Kokomo, Scott and wife Tawni McKay of Galveston and Christy McKay of Kokomo.   Surviving grandchildren include Brooklyne Nelson, Jacob McKay, Eric Bird, Maddison Smith, Kaitlyn McKay, Ryleigh McKay and Kyndall Dunham.  He is also blessed with two great grandchildren, Bentley Bullock and Blakley Smith.  One brother also survives, Danny and wife Jenny Nelson of Greentown.   He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Steve.

A gathering of family and friends will take place from 3 – 6 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2026, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston.  A memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Reed officiating.
