There are several large construction projects underway in Logansport, including the redevelopment of the Logansport Mall, new construction in front of Home Depot, a multi-million dollar stormwater project in downtown Logansport and an expansion of the Cass County Jail.
Here are some updates as of Dec. 2, 2020:
Demolition of the JCPenney building at the former Logansport Mall is underway. Hampton Inn by Hilton will start taking shape on the JCPenney site next spring. In addition to the hotel, The Junction at Logansport will offer an additional 144,000 square feet of retail space. More info here.
Build out on the Planet Fitness building at The Junction at Logansport began a few weeks ago and the company plans to host presales for the Logansport location online starting in January. Find more info here.
There’s a lot of work underway in front of Home Depot in Logansport. There haven’t been any official announcements about the project that we’re aware of, but the county’s GIS system shows the land was purchased in October by Logansport Retail Management LLC for $420,000. A member of our Facebook community found some marketing materials for the space here.
At some point, Third Street will be closed at Melbourne Avenue while work takes place on that portion of the project, but an exact timeline hasn’t been announced. Melbourne Avenue has been closed since the project began in February 2019. At that time, the project was estimated to take approximately two years.
The project is part of a federal requirement to reduce overflows of wastewater into the rivers during heavy rainfall.
Here are a couple photos taken today of construction on the Cass County jail expansion at 4th and High Street in Logansport. You can read more about that project here.
